Track your vehicleSheerMetal welcomes you to track the status of your vehicle during the repair process. Just go to our Contact Us page and type in your information and hit “Submit.” We’ll instantly let you know which stage the repair is in. Stage 1: Awaiting authorization
Our shop is awaiting a written repair authorization from you (the customer),
or
initial communication with your insurance company or a third party.
Stage 2: Expecting parts
After delivery of the necessary parts, SheerMetal can begin repairs on your vehicle.
SheerMetal works with local superior parts suppliers, allowing us to
receive most
parts the same day they are ordered. However, if a part cannot
be located locally,
we will overnight the part at no out-of-pocket expense to
you. Please understand
that SheerMetal, nor any other repair facility, can
guarantee or expedite a
delivery
time beyond standard overnight shipment.
Each parts manufacturer dictates
backorders and availability on a "first come,
first served" basis, in most cases.
Stage 3: Bodywork has begun
Our technicians are straightening, repairing, and/or replacing damaged panels and parts to your vehicle within the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. This may include measuring and pulling the structure of your vehicle back to form, metal welding, plastic welding, metal glazing, test-fitting new parts, or other repair techniques that will bring your vehicle back to its pre-accident condition. This process is the most dynamic, because both safety and quality must be achieved before the vehicle proceeds to the next step. Stage 4: Insurance review
Sometimes we find some needed repairs that weren’t obvious until parts were removed. These additional repairs, parts, or rate changes are commonly referred to as "supplements." If supplements are suggested, we will immediately notify you and the insurance company handling the case (if there is an insurance company involved). An acceptable insurance response to a supplement, in normal circumstances, is to send a representative out within 24-48 hours. Stage 5: Refinishing
Your vehicle is on its way to the paint shop for refinishing now that all repairs have been checked for quality and safety. During the refinishing process, repair areas are coated with primer, then blocked and sanded for a smooth, finished surface. Any new parts are scuffed to ensure new paint adhesion. Your vehicle is on its way to the paint shop for refinishing now that all repairs have been checked for quality and safety. During the refinishing process, repair areas are coated with primer, then blocked and sanded for a smooth, finished surface. Any new parts are scuffed to ensure new paint adhesion. Once the edges and undersides of the parts are painted, your vehicle will be covered in plastic, with only the panels to be painted left uncovered. This ensures there is no overspray on any undamaged portions of your vehicle and makes the clean-up process much easier. Stage 6: Reassembling
Now that your vehicle and any loose parts have been painted, it is being returned to the body shop for the installation of any new parts—plus those items removed—for a proper refinish. (At SheerMetal, we remove all items from a panel to allow access for the paint to be laid over all the edges, nooks and crannies.) The reassembling process can be quick—if we are merely installing a bumper cover, for example—or it can last a few days if we are handling installation of the electrical, mechanical and restraint systems and trim pieces. The more complex the repair was, the longer the reassemble process takes. Stage 7: Make ready
Now that your vehicle has been reassembled, we’ll return it to the paint
shop to remove any imperfections in the paint. Then we’ll give it a final
polish
before washing your vehicle and waxing the refinished panels for
maximum
protection.
Stage 8: Quality control
Our quality control manager is inspecting your vehicle, with the repair order in hand, to ensure that all items have been replaced, repaired or refinished according to the repair order. SheerMetal takes great pride in its quality work, so rest assured your vehicle will only be returned to you once we have completed an extensive examination. Ready!
We’ll call or e-mail you to set up a time when it will be convenient to pick up your much-improved vehicle. Thank you for choosing SheerMetal! |
